Niue is an absolutly beautiful place to visit.   It's population is dwindling fast as the youth leave for New Zealand to go to school and collage.  Few return to the slow island life style.  On our trip around the island there were far to many empty houses evident.  Left abandoned to the jungle.  The locals take a great deal of pride in the looks of there property.   No matter what else, there lands are manicured immacultly.  They always take the time to wave at you as you pass by.

We got together with the rest of our cruising family and rented a mini-van so we could drive round the island to see some of the wonderful sights that are only found on the island of Nuie.

The island is the only pure Coral Island in the South Pacific.  They call themselves "The Rock of Polynesia".  I'll let Jerry elaborate in her journal on that.  But it is a 200 foot high coral island with a ver flat top, no  beaches, just hard, sharp, coral surroundings.   An mother natures awsome rugged beauty at it's finest.

The local fair - this happens ever few weeks
If you look really carefully you can see a medium sized coconut crab (lower center) tied to a banana stork to stop it from running away.  We actually saw it drag the bit banana stork a few feet before it was dragged it back by it's salesperson

Stone man
Unfortunately I forget the meaning of this fine carving in stone of a man standing tall and strong

Country club #1Country club #2Country club #3
All 3 of these pictures are of the "Country Club"
We had to visit it but the day we decided to call it it was closed.  It is actually written up in the tour guides as a country club and golf course.  As you can see we found the Country Club part but didn't venture off into the fields to look for the golf course!
