Palmerston - The making of a successful fishing lure

This series of photos is of Bill T. Masters making me my own personal Palmerston fishing lure.  The only successful fishing I did on the entire trip was here using one of these lures.    With it's solid wire 6' leader and 500 lb. test line no fish was safe from me!.  No rods, no reels.  This is fishing for food folks no sport stuff here.

While we were in Palmerston I manages to go fishing with the locals three times on each occasion I caught fish.  a 40lb Yellow Fin Tuna, a 30lb Yellow Fin Tuna, a 60lb Wahoo and a couple of other not so memorable fish.  Jerry may correct me on the catch.  I was just so thrilled to catch anything!

If you follow the pictures in order you can make your own Palmerston Lure.

Place the first (white) jig over the slug

Place the second (red or blue) jog over the first one

Tie them on firmly with monofilament

Insert the first (single) hook into the base with about a 3 inch lead

Attach the second (double) hook into the first hook with about another 3 inch lead

Many of the other cruisers had similar lures that they left home with.  But none quite as deadly as this one.
(None as precious as this one is to me)
