Hatches
I removed the old Dorades from over the galley and inside the head. In the process it gave the boat a newer sleeker profile and modern look. I have added another new hatch over the navigation station area to add much needed additional ventilation and light down below.
The head has always been a very dark place with all the Teak inside. Having the hatch instead of a dorade in the head had made it a new room. I used to have thoughts of painting the teak paneling white as it was so dark when the door was closed behind me. Now with the hatch I have no such thoughts and am glad I was too lazy to actually paint the teak paneling. Not to mention all the extra ventalation for those hot days!
The first picture is of the deck view of the port hatch, second is the new starboard hatch from the inside, third is the port hatch, the lastly is the hatch in the head. These three hatches have replaced the old teak boxes and dorades which were a pain to use and needed constantly being adjusted from the outside to catch any breeze at all.
And yet again this brings me to another project which will have to be addressed before I leave... that of hatch covers as when sailing by day you need to reduce the light coming in as mush as possible. That also goes for the extra Sun beating heat into the cabin. Hatch covers will greatly reduce the heat factor too.
