Journal - The Repairs (2000)
Label
The repairs which should have taken about 6-8 weeks ended up taking almost six months.
Why does it take longer and cost more than estimated you may ask? Well that is always a question asked every boat owner whenever work in done on a boat. It never takes as long as estimated, it takes twice as long and costs twice as much. Hence some of the phrases you have heard... BOAT means "Break Out Another Thousand" or "A boat is a big hole where you pour money into" and many more... There is no real answer but it just does. Unklike automechanics boat workers do not keep records of work done to use for estimating similar repaires on similar boats! They also never seem to be able to see beyond there own nose that taking this or tha piece out will need to have all these other pieces taken out and the consequences of each piece removed. Hence the lack of real estimating on time and cost for boats. Its a bummer that we have all learned to live with and that fighting it or getting peeved off does no good except to put you in hospital with a heart attack from the stress.
Some of the reasons for the delays were...
Mast rejected
Mast painting rejected
New Railings not delivered on time
Deck pain not matching up to old deck paint colour
Sureyor Inspections
Over time I will expand on each of these issues and others that caused the delays.
