  Whitbred Race Start - 1998

This was a really fun but very nerve racking day... the start on another leg on the Round the world "Whitbred" race in 1998.  There were hundreds if not a couple of thousand boats of every shape and size out there, and all totally uncontrolled.  There were a few race comittee boats who did there best to keep the spectators away from the racers.  The spectators were a mess BUT the race comittee did there best to mess things up too by setting a course which went completely around the Gulf instead of a straignt shot from the start line in Auckland harbour then out of the bay and heading for open ocean.  But I dont think anyone was hit or hurt except for the race crews nerves!
