Tahiti - Papeete (Bastille Day - Dance and Chant Contest)

We are sorry but we were so busy enjoying the music, the dancing, and the singing (chanting) that we didn't write down the names of the groups or villages that they came from. All we can tell you is that they were the top finalists in the contest for each category for 1997. The winners were announced the next day.
Each of the groups had their own band. Please excuse the heads etc in the way. It was hard to not stand up with every one else viaing for position. I think Jerry did a really great job of capturing the colour and beauty of the event.

We have not labeled any of the pictures purposely. We hope these pictures can bring to you some of the beauty and colour of these wonderful people and there culture. While Jerry was taking the still pictures I managed to capture the whole evening on video tape. All four hours of it. We hope to be able to drop a couple of video clips in here some time in the future. (When we get the equipment to do it.) We have watched it several times and are still thrilled with it. The people of the South Pacific are some of the nicest, friendliest and most hospitable you will ever meet in the world.
