Diesel or gasoline engine?
No problem. Diesel of course. Why of course you ask. Easy gasoline or petroleum is flammable and has to be vented correctly before starting an engine. This also poses an explosion situation that no cruiser wants. Most of us are hesitant to even carry large amounts of gas for our outboards. It is quite common to be "bumming" a few liters of gas off another boat for a few days until you can get refills.
Another good reason is the cost of petrol (gas). While in America gas is cheaper than diesel. This is not so in the South Pacific. Petrol is 2 to 3 times as much as diesel and not as readily available dock side. We have found diesel just about every port we have been in. Gas is quite often only available from some inland station, or backyard.
